George C. Katsifaras is a dedicated historian and philologist, bringing a wealth of academic expertise and a passion for Greek language and history to his new role as a member of our academic community. A graduate of the Department of History and Archaeology at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Ioannina, George is also pursuing undergraduate studies in Classical Philology at the same institution. His dual academic background reflects his deep commitment to the study of Greece’s rich cultural and historical heritage.

His scholarly contributions include publications in the geopolitical journal Intermediate Region, under the mentorship of the esteemed Academic and Emeritus Professor of History, Dimitris Kitsikis. George has also presented his research at scientific conferences both in Greece and internationally, showcasing his expertise and engaging with the broader academic community.
George’s scholarly work extends to translation, with his notable translation of Robert S. P. Beekes' Pre-Greek: Phonology, Morphology, Lexicon into Greek as Προελληνικά: Φωνολογία, Μορφολογία, Λεξικόν, published by Theodosis Agg. Papadidmitropoulos. His forthcoming book: High Commission of Greece at Smyrna: Foreign Policy and Diplomatic Affairs May 1919 – November 1919, further underscores his focus on the interwar period, particularly the Greco-Turkish War of 1919–1922. His other scientific interests focus on the "Greek Language Question", and the history of Classical Philology in Greece.
Beyond his academic pursuits, George is an avid lover of opera and classical music, with a special appreciation for Greek composers in this genre. His cultural interests complement his scholarly work, enriching his perspective on Greece’s artistic and intellectual traditions.
George is an active member of several prestigious organisations, including the Literary Society Parnassos, the Scientific Society of Athens, The Company of Greek Philologists, and the Institute of Hellenic-Far Eastern Studies. His involvement in these institutions highlights his commitment to fostering intellectual dialogue and preserving Greece’s cultural and historical legacy.
