Panagiotis D. Tsamis

Panagiotis D. Tsamis is a classical philologist and poet. His primary field of engagement is philology, with a particular focus on the Platonic corpus and the poetic art of the Greek epigram. He graduated from the Department of Philology at the University of Patras, specializing in Classical Studies. His activities range from philology and poetry to theatre and acting.

In 2022, during the course of his studies, he published his first poetry collection entitled Thorny Blossom (Private Edition). Since then, he has devoted himself to the writing of poetic works as well as to the translation of foreign poetry, such as Goethe’s Prometheus. In 2024, in collaboration with Professor Nikos Charalambopoulos of the University of Patras, he contributed to the organization of an International One-Day Conference on Plato as a playwright. During this event, he also participated in the theatrical performance When I Knock on Your Door, portraying Socrates in Plato’s Symposium. In 2025, his second poetry collection, entitled The Convergence of Time, was published (Theodosios Ang. Papadimitropoulos Publications).

Through his work, Panagiotis D. Tsamis succeeds in preserving and highlighting ancient Greek poetic meters (e.g. the elegiac couplet) that tend to disappear from contemporary Greek literature. With passion and dedication, he brings to light all aspects of the Greek element, so that the continuity of Greek culture may be passed on intact to future generations.

His love for literature, of course, is not limited solely to writing. He has served as a speaker at numerous book presentations (poetry collections, short story collections, and novels).

He has also worked as a volunteer editor for the Open Greek and Latin Project of the Center for Hellenic Studies at Harvard University (2021), where he contributed to the digitization and free public dissemination of the greater part of the texts of ancient Greek and Byzantine literature to readers worldwide. These texts are available on the Scaife platform.

Beyond his academic and literary pursuits, he has been involved in amateur theatre from a young age. He has participated in amateur theatrical productions, such as Haemon (based on Sophocles’ Antigone), staged at the Monemvasia Amateur Theatre Festival, where he portrayed the role of Creon (21 August 2021). His favorite playwright is Henrik Ibsen.
